Being Visionary << Short Story >> "Choose Life" by Sophie (age 13)

“This court is now in session!”  Shouted Judge Murphy as he hammered the table.  “Mr. Smith, the defendant.  Mr. Jones, the prosecutor.  Mr. Jones, it is time for your summery of the problem at stake.”
“Yes, your honor.”  Said Mr. Jones.  He was a sturdy young fellow, always dressed in his suit and bowtie.  His deep blue eyes were told to be melancholy and gentle.  “It is my understanding that abortion is legal in this country for two reasons.  For the equality of genders, and for the freedom for women to decide for themselves.  We believe that the child should be considered as well as the woman in these situations.  We are here to reveal some startling facts regarding abortion, and hopefully change some views on this matter.  Jurors, we would like to assure you that we have done intense study on this subject.”  Mr. Jones, turning to the judge continued, “Your honor, we present our first witness.”
Mr. Jones called up a young girl, appearing around the age of twenty years old.  She was very pretty, with chestnut hair and eyes green like the forest.
“I would like to present Ms. Amanda Carter.”
Ms. Carter then rose and sat at the desk.  The bailiff approached her and asked her to raise her right hand.
“Do you solemnly swear that you will tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth so help you God?”
“I cannot swear, but I will promise and give you my word.  It's not much different, you know.”
The bailiff looked at the judge questionably, waiting for his instruction.
“Is this because of religious purposes?”
     “Yes, your honor.”
     “So noted.  You may proceed.”
     “Thank you, your honor.”
Mr. Jones approached Ms. Carter in full focus.
“Ms. Carter, is it true that three years ago you were blessed with your first child?”
“Yes.  And what a delight he is!”  She smiled.
“Is it also true that during the beginning of the pregnancy you considered aborting the child?”
“Yes.  Sadly, that is true.”  She was no longer smiling, showing a face of guilt.
     “What changed your mind?”
“Well, ever since I was thirteen years of age I have been a believer in Yeshua, most commonly known as Jesus.  I believed in staying pure in heart and body, but one evening my life turned upside down.”  Ms. Carter continued in a shaky tone.  “At the young age of 17 years old I was forcefully taken advantage of.  A few weeks later I found out I was pregnant.”  She paused, and sighed deeply.  “I knew it was wrong to abort the child, but I couldn't imagine ever taking care of a baby by myself.  Especially not a child that was conceived the way it was.  Even though I was struggling in many forms during this time, I decided to look in the bible for some answers.”  She gently placed a bible onto the desk in front of her.  “Psalm 139:13-16 says this:  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”  Ms. Carter slowly closed her bible, and closed her eyes momentarily, holding back her tears.  “Right there I knew, that if my baby's days were written in a book, before even one came to be, then he was supposed to live, whether brought forth through force or not.”
Mr. Jones nodded.
     “Nothing further Ms. Carter.”
He then strode back to his seat, rather moved himself by her testimony, no matter how many times he had heard it before.
Then Mr. Smith walked up.  He was also young and sturdy, but unlike Mr. Jones, he always seemed stiff and uncomfortable.  His eyes were deep brown and he wore very thick, round glasses.  His hair was a dirty blonde which complimented his numerous freckles, and he was always well groomed.
With an angry and disturbed look on his face, he approached the witness carrying a large print Bible with him.
“Ms. Carter,” he started quickly, “have you ever read the verses found in Exodus 21:22-25?”
“Well sir, I don’t know if I have.”
“Then allow me to read them to you.”  He opened up his bible, took out a bookmark, and began to read.  “‘And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall surly be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him; and he shall pay as the judges decide.  But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty of life for life, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise.’” Turning towards the Jury, he began to explain his point.  “Let’s look at the beginning of the verse: ‘And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall surly be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him.’  Is it not obvious that even the bible finds little value in an unborn fetus.  You see, the punishment is for the injury  of the ‘living’ being.”
     “This is outrageous!”
     “Silence, Mr. Jones!”
Mr. Jones hesitantly sat down, praying that God would give him the right words to say when it came to be his turn.  He spoke quietly, near a whisper.  “Yes, your honor.”
Mr. Smith seemed rather pleased with himself as he continued his speech.  “Ms. Carter, do you think that it would be easier today and more freeing if you did not have your child with you?”
“Absolutely not!”  Ms. Carter seemed disgusted, struggling to regain her composure.
“Ms. Carter, what if you were financially and physically incapable of taking care of the child when you became pregnant.  What if your circumstances were dangerous concerning your environment? What would you have done then?”
“I would've put him up for adoption.”
“What if you couldn't find a family?”
“There are hundreds and thousands of families searching.  What you’re suggesting is absolutely impossible.”
“Yes, but Ms. Carter, wouldn't it have been much easier if you had a spouse with you to take care of your firstborn child?”
“That would be the ideal situation.”
     “That is not an answer.”
“Well, yes it would be easier, but that doesn't mean--”
“No further questions, your honor.”  Mr. Smith walked away with a smirk of a smile on his face, proud for making the absurd explanation that he had made.
Mr. Jones stood up and approached the Jurors.  “Jurors, if you looked up the word 'fine,' it would describe it to you as this: ‘a sum of money imposed as a penalty for an offense or dereliction.’” Mr. Jones took a deep breath and continued boldly, “If the man was given penalty for his crime of causing the woman to have a miscarriage, it obviously means that the child did matter!”  He paused.  “And to challenge Mr. Smith’s second argument, I will say this:  Who would deny that if you had a million dollars in your bank account, life for anyone would be easier?  Yet, for so many, this is an unrealistic convenience.  But thankfully, our financial class does not define our character or skill.  There are millions of single mothers and fathers out there.  And as Ms. Carter put it, not all of us are granted with the ‘ideal situation.’”  Silence then engulfed the room, the only sound being Mr. Jones’ footsteps as he walked back to his seat.
“Mr. Smith, Mr. Jones, do you have any further questions for this witness?”
“No, your honor.”  Stated Mr. Jones as he sat down.
“None further.”  Said Mr. Smith through clenched teeth.
Ms. Carter then left the stand.
“Mr. Smith, you may present your witness.”
     “Thank you, your honor.”
Mr. Smith then summoned a man wearing a white lab coat, appearing to be a Doctor, or a Scientist.  Once again, the baliff approached the witness, and recited the words:  “Do you solemnly swear to tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help you God?”
     “Yes, I do.”
     “You may be seated.”
Mr. Smith approached the witness.  “Dr. Brown, correct?”
     “Yes.”
“I have a few questions for you, and if you don't mind, I would like you to answer yes, or no.”
     “That's fine.”
“Good.  Is a fetus referred to as a parasite?”
     “Yes.”
“Do you agree with this term?”
     “Yes.”
     “Why?”
“Because when a fetus is inside a woman's womb, it's taking nutrients from her body and returning nothing whatsoever.”
     “No further questions your honor.”
As Mr. Smith sat down, Mr. Jones smiled big, and God revealed to him exactly what he was going to say.
“If you don't mind, Dr. Brown, I would like to use the same method as Mr. Smith and request that you answer yes, or no to my questions.”
     “That’s only fair.”
“Thank you.  Dr. Brown, is it not true that a parasite must be a living creature in order to take nutrients from the woman?”
     “Yes, this is true.”
“So you are killing a living creature that is soon to be a human.  That would mean you used to be a parasite, yes?”
     “Well...”
     “Yes or no, sir.”
     “Yes.  It would”
“Dr. Brown, were you aware that if the woman is injured during her pregnancy, that the fetus can send stem cells through the placenta, and help heal the woman?”
     “Yes, I was.”
     “Does a parasite do that?”
     “No.”
“Didn't you just say that the fetus returns, quote on quote, 'nothing whatsoever?'”
     “I was referring to nutrients.”
“Ah, I see.”  Mr. Jones nodded his head.
     “No further questions, your honor.”
Mr. Smith walked forward again hoping to make his point clear.
“Dr. Brown, is it true that a virus is made up of cells?”
     “Yes.”
“So, disposing of a mass of cells that is 4 days old is no different than curing a virus, right?”
“Yes.”  Dr. Brown seemed rather satisfied.
     “No further questions.”
Mr. Jones was taken back by his suggestion.  “God, speak through me.”  He whispered as he approached Dr. Brown.
“A virus is a mass of genetic information, yes?”
     “Yes.”
“So, it's not necessarily a full cell, right?”
Dr. Brown bit his lip angrily. “No.”
“But, there's more.  Aren't all viruses coated with protein?”
     “Yes.”
“Is a fetus coated with protein?”
“No.”  Dr. Brown was getting angry.
“And, does a virus develop a heart, brain, and spinal cord, by the fifth week of conception, let alone be conceived rather than spread?”
“No.”  He spoke coldly, wanting to lash out at Mr. Jones.
     “No further questions, your honor.”
It took Judge Murphy a few moments to comprehend what he was saying, and then replied slowly.  “Do you have any more witnesses?”
     “No, your honor.”
“Well then we will let the jurors decide on the matter.”

Dear reader, the facts have been presented to you.  As we’ve seen, Science shows the difference between a mass of tissue and human life in the mother’s womb, and  Biblically, God tells us that He knew us, even before our conception, and He has already written our story.  I have presented to you these things, and now the choice is yours.  You are the juror.  What is your verdict?

Sweet Fellowship part 1

Monday, January 6, 2014

My sweet friend Peach, and I didn't get to sleep until 1:30 am!  Why you ask?  Uh....well, I don't think we know...do we girl ;)?  Oh wait...I think it was because we were talking, laughing, and enjoying the start of a great week together lol :)

As Peach and I were scavenging for something to eat, she noticed that her dad had forgotten his lunch.  So we ate something kind of quick like and drove over to his work.....and we um....*ahem* interrupted a meeting....sorry Mr. K!!!!!!!!!!!!

After we got back to the house, it was time to go out shopping with her mom!  First stop...Vince & Joe's....okay...this shopping trip was.....what would you say Peach....hilarious? lol
We had the hardest time bagging potatoes....you would like to thing it was a simple task....especially for two girls in their late teens and early twenties.  But no.....instead the bag had to rip...then the second one ripped....then the third!  Yeah we finally gave up with the bags and just put the potatoes in the cart.

After Vince & Joe's, we stopped at Bed, Bath, & Beyond.  Nothing really happened on this trip........it was a "normal" shopping trip at Bed, Bath, & Beyond lol!

When we got home, Peach and I looked at the American Girl website for ideas so we could make Sydney something for her AG doll.  We did that for the longest time....and we finally made decisions :)

After a long day of fun, laughter, talking, and laughter, it was decided to call it a night.  On our way up the stairs....well...let's just say that yours truly decided to be her "graceful" self....*ahem*....I fell UP the stairs.  And that is how our day ended, by taking a fall...haha!

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

The next day we decided that we didn't get enough shopping.....so we went to K-Mart, Big Lots, & Hobby Lobby.

At K-Mart Peach and I found almost matching sweat-shirts, but didn't purchase them until later that night.
At Big Lots we....why DID we go to Big Lots Peach? haha...I think I forgot to write that down....oooops =/
At Hobby Lobby we bought fabric so we could start on sewing stuff for Sydney and her doll!

When we got back we started the sewing process for Sydney.....it was SO MUCH FUN!!!

Later on that afternoon Peach's mom took us and we got Starbucks :)  Okay...here's a little side-note - I HAVE MISSED STARBUCKS!  I don't normally get it, so when I go on trips to see friends...I end up getting Starbucks often...not because I ask to go there, but because my friends know I love it, and we end up going there.

That night I decided to embarrass myself....and let me tell you how!

So Mr. K (Peach's dad) & K (Peache's lil' bro) were getting ready to go on a missions trip to Israel.  Now Peach had told me that it was a guy trip and that's why she and her mom weren't going.  But that didn't process fast enough in my mind.  So when we were in the family room, I decided to ask a question...and this is how the conversation went:

Me: Okay Mr. K, I'm jealous....I want to go to Israel.
Mr. K: Maybe you'll get the chance someday
Me: Yeah....hey...can I hide in your or K's suitcase?
Mr. K: [laughs]....you can if you don't mind being the only girl in a group with a bunch of guys for two weeks.
Me: Oh.....yeah....I forgot that minor detail
K: Ah don't worry about it....you can just jump out of the suitcase and yell "SURPRISE"

I was SO embarrassed after that....but I just laughed with everyone else.....hey Peach, has this moment been forgotten? lol

After everyone went to sleep, Peach and I decided to learn "the cups".  After 1 hour of trying over and over, having the diamond come out of my purity ring, and bruising our hands, we finally got it down.  After this accomplishment we decided to call it a night {after we ate midnight snacks of course...} ;)

HERE IS THE VIDEO WE WERE ABLE TO PLAY WITH :)

Stay tuned for "Sweet Fellowship part 2"....you don't wanna miss it....if you do, you may miss some great laughs ;)

Prep and Landing

The prep:

January 4, 2014

*pick out outfits
*find snow-pants
*put music on the Mp3 player
*pack a travel bag
*pack suitcase
*clean room

After all the prep I did, I didn't get to cleaning my room thoroughly......but it was clean.

Okay, so the prep wasn't that bad....until it came to packing a suitcase that was too small!
Have you ever seen the cartoons where the person is sitting on the suitcase, jumping on the suitcase, even standing on the suitcase, just to get it to zip close?  Yeah...that was me :P
Mom - I did not stand on the suitcase [ just thought I'd clarify that :) ]

January 5, 2014

I was so excited!  Not only was I headed to Michigan, but Rhey wanted me to go along to the American Girl store with her :)  WOW!!  Let me just say....I am so glad that I was able to go along and see the excitement in her before I left.  It made my day!!!!

After the American Girl store, we headed to the Baltimore Airport.....only to find out that my flights had been cancelled!!!!!!  It turned out that the big snow storm were affecting flights which meant flights weren't leaving Cleveland, Ohio until the 8th of January.
However thanks to the friendly lady at the ticket counter, I was able to be assigned a seat on a flight departing at 6:45 that night.  Now was the hard part....waiting. waiting. waiting. for the right moment to head through security and do some more waiting in order to board my flight.

I've only been on a plane one other time.....when Rhey and I flew to Colorado.  I love flying. absolutely love it!  Only this flight was a little different.....I was sitting between a woman snoring on my right and a kinda grumpy older man on my left.  Also, when the plane left Baltimore it was absolutely clear......I didn't think it was so bad.  But when I heard the pilot say that we were getting ready to land into the Detroit airport, I looked out the window....WOW there was a lot of snow.

The landing:

I called my dear friend and told her that I had landed.  She then told me to follow the crowd and I will easily get to the baggage claim.
Okay.....you would like to think that there would have been a crowd....but there wasn't.  And not only that....there were no signs for a while!  So while I was on the phone with her, this guy gave me directions.....how embarrassing!

Finally....I found the baggage claim....and my dear friend and her mother waiting for me.  After giving each other a really big hug and meeting her mother, giving her a hug, and meeting her brother and giving him a side hug, we grabbed my bag and headed out.....prepared to have the time of my life :)

Stay tuned for "Sweet Fellowship part 1"

When & how my sweet friend and I met

My dear friend and I met five years ago (2009) when I was 13 and she was 15.  At that time, we were just merely acquaintances….I subscribed to her magazine and submitted content.  At times, I would get an occasional personal note from her, and I would write back.
At fourteen, I participated in an apron swap hosted by Emily at Practically Pink.  What Emily did was, she paired young ladies up whose personalities complemented each other.  So Emily paired me up with my dear friend.  Soon I received a beautifully sewn apron from her and she received a vintage apron that I had bought (at that time I couldn't sew).  With the aprons there were personal letters to one another and a recipe.  After the apron swap we started to communicate more often through personal letters….not just about the magazine.
In 2011, our friendship blossomed!  We started writing letters, then we started chatting through our Google accounts, then we started texting…..then the Father saw it was time to step me out of my comfort zone. ….talking on the phone :l  Allow me to pause for a brief moment…..I’m not typically a phone person, so when she told me that I could call her, I kinda laughed…and put the thought to the back of my mind lol.  Then finally it happened…..I got over my shyness on the phone with her, but anybody else….yeah can’t talk to them without sounding totally dumb and jumbled haha!
Okay now back to the rest of the story….
After talking on the phone with her for about four months….we finally had the opportunity to meet.  They were going to be in Haper’s Ferry, WV…which is only three hours away from where we live……YAAAY!!!  There was so much excitement built up…..I don’t exactly know how I was able to get school and chores done, let alone make dinner lol.  Then it happened….our schedules didn't line up, so we had to face heartache (well at least I did lol).
Then for Christmas, Mom and Dad decided to bless me with a one week trip to Michigan.  I was so excited…..I cried, squealed, gasped, and jumped for joy lol.
……..stay tuned for the post “Prep & Landing”…..

A Young Evangelist

“Life only happens once, why not make the most out of it? Whenever you get the chance spread the Gospel! You never know if you will ever see the person again, or when the Lord will call you home!”

These are the famous words of a young man by the name of Avery Jackson. This young man had a soul that was set on fire for God. Although he'd usually keep his faith private, and never really got into any discussions on faith, he desired to live his life in purity & for the glory of the Lord. Avery always longed to a pilot...much like his favorite missionary Jim Elliot, but all that changed in 1923, when Avery outwardly expressed his faith.

Summer 1923 was the turning point in eighteen year old Avery's life. For ten years he had kept his faith in God private, only because he thought his faith was nothing anyone else should know about. His father and mother were missionaries in Afghanistan  his twenty year old brother was a missionary in Germany, and his twenty-one year old brother was a missionary in Zimbabwe, South Africa, but for Avery, he longed to be a pilot and not a missionary!
As he was walking down the street towards his friend Eric's house, he past an elderly man named Mr. Carlson. Avery nodded polietly as he walked past him, ignoring the urge to share the Gospel with him. Soon he was knocking on Eric's door, Avery waited for an answer, when there was no answer, Avery walked down the steps headed toward home. As he was hurridly walking down the street, he heard the Lord talking to him. “My son, why do you rush home? Are you worried Mr. Carlson might ask you a question regarding your faith in Me? Share My Word with him, you might like what you'll see.” Heeding God's call, Avery walked up to the elderly man and started talking to him.
“Good afternoon Mr. Carlson, lovely weather we're having today isn't it?”
“Yes, yes it is young man. I was hoping to have some rain today though.”
“Well the day isn't over yet. Mr. Carlson have you ever thought about where you will go when you die?”
“Hahahaha, son I may be old, but I'm not that old! But to answer your question, yes I have. I'll be going to heaven when I die.”
“How do you know that?”
“Well, only because I'm a mighty good person.”
“By whose standards Mr. Carlson? Have you ever heard of the Ten Commandments?”
“Why yes I have, my mama used to read them to me everynight.”
Avery began to go through the Ten Commandments with Mr. Carlson. He soon found out that Mr. Carlson was not what he seemed to be. He had just recently gotten out of prison for a crime he had committed twenty years ago. He had hardly kept any one of the Commandments, God had set in place. Just before Avery was about to leave, Mr. Carlson asked him one more question.
“Young man, you said God can and will forgive me, can you tell me what to do to be forgiven?”
“Yes sir I would love to help you! All you do is pray, asking God to forgive you, thanking Him for sending His Son to die on the cross for your sins, and finally thank Him for forgiving you.”
Mr. Carlson and Avery prayed together, hearing the elderly man pray, brought tears to Avery's eyes! He was super glad that he had a part in Mr. Carlson's redemption!
As Avery walked home that afternoon, he cried to God, “Lord God, thank you so much for calling me to witness to Mr. Carlson today! I'm so sorry that I ignored you the first time, please forgive me. Lord from now on, I will not keep my faith private! I will share Your Word with the whole world, I will not be ashamed for living for You. I love you Lord, amen.”
Three days later, as Avery was reading his Bible and writing the very first of his many sermons, Eric knocked on the door.
“Avery, you'll never believed what happened!”
“What's wrong, is everything okay Eric?”
“Mr. Carlson passed away last night!”
“You're joking!”
“No, Avery he told me to tell you that he was glad you stopped and led him to the Lord.”
“When did you talk to him?”
“Two days ago...I guess he knew his time was coming to an end!”
“Eric thank you so much for telling me about Mr. Carlson...I really appreciate it!”

During his sermon a month later, he used his encounter with Mr. Carlson as an example. He wanted to make sure that everyone knew how important heeding the call of God is. He made sure that people knew that keeping your faith secret isn't always a good thing to do. Part of his sermon he spoke these words, “Life only happens once, why not make the most out of it? Whenever you get the chance spread the Gospel! You never know if you will ever see the person again, or when the Lord will call you home!” Since his encounter with Mr. Carlson, he had a burning desire to spread the Good News. Avery Jackson soon became the best evangelist known...besides Billy Grahm of course.
Soon God sent him to China, where he spread the love of God to all the inhabitants of the land. Avery Jackson was publicly executed for his faith on June 25, 1925, when he was the age of 20! He lived his life striving to do what was pleasing to his Savior, and to have a pleasing integrity.

The Rivercrest boys

It all at a summer camp in Fremont, Nebraska. The name of this camp was Camp Rivercrest. This was honestly a really fun camp to spend a week or two with new friends and learning about our Savior.
One might say, “Camp Rivercrest draws you nearer to God”
while another might say, “your whole time their you want to have revenge on the boys!”

Honestly you do draw closer to God, but you also despise the fact that the camp is a boy/girl camp...when you only get three hours of sleep.  I learned this the hard way at nine years old!

One fine night in cabin 2, my friend Claire and I decided to have a sleepover on Claire's bunk. Claire was my age, and basically my best camp buddy! The night we decided to have a sleepover was also the night the boys decided to be...well boys! At 1:00 in the morning Claire and I woke up to, “Wake up girls! Rise and shine!” Now the counselor my cabin mates and I had that year was an awesome counselor! Until she was woken up to stuff like what the boys pulled off.

Claire and I take all we learned in Chapel the previous day, and start asking God to deal with the little things. Both of us were down on our knees begging God to make the boys go away. Finally at 1:45 in the morning the boys leave!  However, we had trouble going back to sleep (gee I wonder why?).  So instead of counting sheep or our blessings, we whisper and quietly laugh at each others jokes. Suddenly I hear Claire say, “Ali-cat the door knobs moving!” I tell her that she is going insane...until I hear, “Shhh you're gonna wake up Christi!” After the two girls pray, they hear the screen door slam. However the cabin 2 boys were not gone...in fact this is how the conversation went outside:

(Jeremiah=counselor Brian=Jonathan's 11 year old brother Jonathan=Brian's 12 year old brother)

Jeremiah: Jonathan, Brian, you've got the supplies?
Jonathan: Yup we've got them! Who do we irritate?
Brian: Let's do Claire and Ali-cat...they're the funniest in the whole cabin, they should be fun to watch!
Jeremiah: Good idea

So they sneak into the cabin and put shaving cream on my hand. Just when the three guys think they have pulled a prank on Claire and I, I rubbed the shaving cream all over Jonathan's face. Let me just say that the boys never pulled this stunt again!

So...what did you think?  This was a work of non-fiction...however I couldn't remember the male counselors name.  So that is the only thing that is not true!!!

Jordan and her huge predicament

Joshua and Jordan always quarreled...and it was always over little things. One day the quarreling went to far!
One snow day in Red Oak, Iowa, Joshua (11)  and Jordan (7) sat in the basement of their house playing the PlayStation 2. Not being able to decide on what game to play the quarreling soon began.

Joshua: No Jordan we're going to play Tony Hawk today, because we played the Disney game last time!
Jordan: Joshua we played the Tony Hawk game last time!
Joshua: No we didn't! You're just saying that because you want to play the Disney game!
Jordan: Joshua I'm not that selfish!
Joshua: If you don't let me play Tony Hawk, I'll lock you in the closet!
Jordan: I'm going to tell Mommy that you're acting like this.

Soon Jordan found herself locked away in a dark closet, while Joshua was playing the game he wanted! After about 45 min. of being locked in the closet Jordan started crying until...knock, knock, knock. Somebody's at the door! Please be Mommy or Alisha! Thought Jordan as she pressed her ear to the closet door so she could hear better. From the closet this what she heard:

Me: Hey Joshua can you and Jordan play?
Joshua: Um-mm....well I can, but Jordan can't....she's in trouble!
Me: Really what did she do?

Before Joshua could answer my question, Jordan let out a loud scream: H-E-L-P M-E!!!!! I recognized the voice and where it was coming from.  I made my way to the closet in which poor Jordan was contained.

Me: Jordan are you okay?
Jordan: No...Joshua locked me in there!
Me: Why because he wanted to play the game he played last week...Tony Hawk?
Jordan: Yep!

As Joshua, Jordan, and I walked up the stairs Heather stopped us.

Heather: Who screamed at the top of their lungs?
Alisha: Jordan did...she was locked in the closet downstairs!
Jordan: Yeah Mommy, Joshua locked me in the closet because I wanted to play the Disney game on the PlayStation 2 with him. But no he wanted to play the same game he played last week!
Heather: Joshua you are not allowed to play with the girls today, you're grounded...this time I mean it !

As Jordan and I happily played with each other, Joshua sat at the window watching us play in my backyard. For those of you curious...Joshua never locked Jordan in another closet again!

So how did you like this story?  This was actually a work of fiction and non-fiction that I came up with...

Josh really did lock Jordan in a closet because he didn't get his way, but he was never caught (due to a promise I made him)

Josh and his marvelous idea

It all happened with three very best friends: me (7), Josh (9), and Jordan (5).

One cold winter day we decided to play at Joshua & Jordan's house.  Since I lived behind Joshua and Jordan, the three of us played with each other 24/7!  Anyway, Josh was grounded this particular very cold winter day, and Jordan was taking her afternoon nap.  Being the trouble-maker that he was, Joshua decided to go against what his mother, Heather, had told him, and played with me anyway, since I was playing in my backyard.
Josh: Hey Alisha, come on over so we can play!
Me: “No Josh we can't your grounded, maybe tomorrow.”
Josh: I'm only grounded from going over to YOUR house...we can still play.
Me: Oh, okay I'm on my way.  So I started heading toward the drive way.
Josh: No, no, no, it will take too long, just climb over the fence.
Me: Joshua are you nuts, I'll get stuck, no way, I'm walking over!
Josh: I'll even help you over, I climb over the fence all the time!
Me:  Fine, but you better help me!

As I was climbing over the fence, my right leg got caught between the pickets.  Josh had no clue what to do...if he told his mother...he would be in deep trouble.  If he leftme in the fence, I might end up with a broken leg.  So Josh decided to run for help...he jumped the fence I was stuck in, and ran into my house yelling “Ali's stuck in the fence!” over and over!  Now my mom had just finished getting dressed after a nice hot shower.  Hearing Josh yell this, she ran outside with wet hair, and helped me out of the fence!

Three hours later, Heather returned from her friends house, and she and my mom talked for quite some time.  My mom told Heather how I had gotten stuck in the fence after being convinced by Josh.  Heather then told my mom that Josh had been grounded for the day, and wasn't allowed to play with me.  My mom apologized for allowing us to play together.  While our two mom's talked, Josh, Jordan, and I had our own conversation...I told Josh that I would never take his advice again.

Cafeteria Monster

Inman Primary School...most second graders will tell you that this particular school makes learning fun, but four of them (who are now Sophomores) will tell you that this school made lunch time a horror story!
Me (8), Wyatt (8), Drew (8), and William (8) dreaded lunch time! Most kids find the cafeteria a place of refuge during the school week, but these four second graders thought the classroom as refuge. Why you ask? Well there was one lady that made our lunch time a horror story. Wyatt, Drew, and William gave this lady a name...the Cafeteria Monster. If you cannot fathom how awful their lunch time was, then allow me to give you about four examples:

When the school would serve green beans and carrots, I would avoid them with my whole life (I hated carrots and green beans with a passion). However this is how the conversation between them:
“Hi there, can you not give me carrots and green beans please?”
“What's the matter you don't like them?”
“Well no it's not that it's...I...I just don't feel like carrots and green beans today.”
“Fine...”
After that four letter word came the scoops...scoop 1, scoop 2, scoop 3. This made me very angry, only because I would have to eat carrots and green beans at home too. Anyway, luckily there was always the trash can!

When they would serve macaroni and cheese, Wyatt would have an absolute blast! Allow me to preface how disgusting the macaroni and cheese was exactly! It wasn't thick and creamy, but watery and mushy! Anyway back to the story, this how Wyatt and Cafeteria Monster would talk to one another”
“Hi there, can you not give me Macaroni and cheese please?”
“What's the matter you don't like it?”
“Well no...it's just I'm gonna have it for dinner, so...”
“Fine...”
As usual the awful four letter word...scoop 1, scoop 2, scoop 3, scoop 4, and the hugest scoop 5! Luckily William loved the macaroni and cheese with his whole heart (yuck). This didn't make Wyatt happy, he tried going to the teacher one time, but the teacher thought he was making up a story...poor Wyatt!

I have never been a fan of 1% white milk (or chocolate), but that's all Inman carried...that and orange juice. One day, I didn't feel like orange juice or milk. Cafeteria Monster noticed me contemplating over what drink to get, and made sure I knew that I was doing something wrong.
“Hey move it little girl, you're holding up the line!”
“I can't decide what to get for my drink.”
“Take some milk and get moving!”
“I don't like 1% milk.
“Grab water then! HURRY UP!”
“I don't want water.”
Hesitantly I grabbed the orange juice (which was 1% too). I made sure that I took her own drink in the future!

Pizza day was William's favorite day...none of us were quite sure why. However we were really confused at why Cafeteria Monster was so “nice” to William. I soon found out the answer to our confusion...this is how William would talk to Cafeteria Monster on pizza day:
“How is your day going ma'am?”
“Good!”
“That's good...I don't want any pizza thank you?”
“What's the matter you don't like it?”
“No as a matter of fact I absolutely HATE the pizza here, but since I wont be eating dinner for a long time, then I might as well have some then huh?”
“FINE!”
Well you know the tradition, although William got himself into trouble and ended up giving his three friends a slice of pizza and still had one of his own!

Brief History on the Characters:

I am now 17 years old and am a Junior in high school. I enjoy photography, card-making, writing books, and scrap-booking. I hope that the books I write will reflect the Light of my Savior. I am currently working on a pure romance novel.

(Wyatt, Drew, and William are non-fictional characters, however I haven't seen them since the sixth grade)
